Romanize an Arbitrary Thai Word

You can generate a transcription for any word written in Thai by entering it in the form below. The output is rendered according to the Romanization output format selected below; the default can be changed in the site control panel. The current setting is TlOriginal.

The Enhanced system is documented here: introduction, consonants, vowels.

These phonemic transcriptions are generated automatically by a software algorithm. Over time, this code evolves as we make improvements based on user feedback and corrections. Because we use an automated process, the results may not be correct.

Beyond the actual Thai input, our system incorporates several methods by which we can affect the result for a given word:
  • syllabification assistance
  • tagging a database entry with specific flags
  • manual override
  • software code changes
Of these methods, the first is available for you to experiment with here. You may optionally insert a bullet • between the syllables of your entry to indicate the syllabification. A double-bullet •• indicates that the preceding consonant is used twice: once as a final in the previous syllable, and then again with an inherent -a.
