Shanghai calling ..

Postby sabaii2014 » Fri Sep 26, 2014 2:03 am

Hi all

I am an American living ... let's see it's Thursday so it must be ....

I travel a lot. I spend most of the year in London and Shanghai and at least 2-3 months every year in Thailand and I have fallen in love with pretty much everything Thai: the peoples, religion, foods, cultures ... and the Thai language.

I speak a lot of languages (all pretty poorly) but Thai is the first language I have really fallen in love with - for the first time I actually enjoy studying a language instead of having to force myself. This site is really useful and I am grateful to have such a wonderful resource.

My main reason for joining this site is to try to keep in touch with Thai people and culture during the months that I am in Shanghai. I would really like to find a cultural center or similar for three reasons: (1) to improve my very basic Thai, (2) to make Thai friends in Shanghai, and (3) to learn more about traditional and modern Thai cultures.

If anyone out there can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.

With metta,

8-)

Welcome to Thai-language.com!

Would you consider learning Thai via Skype? I see that there is an organized group of Thai language teachers at http://www.learnthaistyle.com/Spoken+Languages . If you do investigate, please let us know what you find.

Thank you David. What a great resource. I have just sent the link, via WeChat, to 2 Japanese friends of mine in Shanghai who share my love of Thailand and cannot find teachers - a Japanese-speaking, trilingual teacher would be perfect for them. I will also investigate for myself and let you know...

Kind regards,
