Test and Hello

Postby jmoor426 » Tue Jan 16, 2018 3:18 am

Hi everyone, testing... Thanks to David for helping to set up my registration.

I'm interested in learning Thai mainly because I have a Thai partner here in Oz, but I've always wanted to learn an Asian language. I've always been interested in languages. I learnt Portuguese as an adult, after living in Brazil, and now speak and write fluently, something I'm very proud of. Having had a go at Thai for a couple of years, though, I'll be a lot more pleased with myself if I ever achieve fluency in Thai...

I'm keen to learn to read and write as well as speak. I'm finding it VERY challenging, mainly because of the tones, but after 2 years it's starting to make some kind of sense now. I'm using Benjawan Becker's book, also Stuart Jay Raj's, plus various web sites including this one. I have found the LingoPolo app useful because I have a long train journey every day to work. I'll probably be asking lots of questions about spelling and tone rules.

I may travel to Thailand for work (I'm an engineer with Ford) and it's close to Australia so I anticipate regular trips there. I spent 3 weeks in Phuket and Bangkok early last year. We are planning a trip to Chantaburi this year.
