How to use กว่า ... จะ ... ก็

The structure of Thai sentences

How to use กว่า ... จะ ... ก็

Postby xkkpafi » Sun Aug 09, 2015 1:32 am

I find it hard to pin down exactly how the structure กว่า ... จะ ... ก็.. is used and would appreciate if some one would give me some examples of the use. It seems to be convey the idea of 'while one action continues, another action is running as a consequence and having an effect on someone or something else'

My teacher left me a sample sentence which makes little sense:
กว่าเขาจะมาถึงผมก็ไปนานแล้ว = until they shall I arrive I too go long time already.

Thanks.

กว่าเขาจะมาถึงผมก็ไปนานแล้ว

I believe this means,

"By the time he arrived, I had been long gone."

See the sample sentences at http://www.thai-language.com/id/230191 for the use of "กว่าจะ".

Depending on the time frame intended,
it could mean:
By the time he arrives (gets here), I will have been long gone.
