Thai line breaking

Postby learnmethai » Wed Nov 14, 2007 7:13 am

I am doing some research on Thai line breaking and was looking for some a Thai paragraph with possible line breaks marked.
In english its simple, every where there is a space is a possible break, but from my understanding Thai does not put spaces inbetween words.
So it would be greatly appreciated if some could post some Thai that looked like this:

Basic-ially#if#you#could#post#a#sent-ence#that#has#
sym-bols#in-between#words#and#where#you#can#break#
words#that#would#be#great.

Thanks.

Thai line breaking

Postby David and Bui » Wed Nov 14, 2007 8:35 am

Bryan has written a short paper on line and word breaks in Thai for this website. Bryan's work can be found at http://www.thai-language.com/?ref=spacing .

The Royal Institute has published a paper in Thai concerning the rules for line breaks. If you would like this document, please send a note. This subject has been discussed previously in Thai-language.com and a search should locate the discussion for you. Pleasee let us know if you need any further assistance.

Good luck.

The reference to the Royal Institute article in Thai regarding spacing, also referred to in Bryan's article is http://www.royin.go.th/th/profile/index.php?SystemMenuID=1&SystemModuleKey=279

Thai line breaking

Postby learnmethai » Wed Nov 14, 2007 9:06 am

This is helpful but I think I need to be more specific. I wrote some software that looks at Thai text and marks where you are allowed to break on a line. It seems to be working but I am no experience with the thai language. But it would very easy to test if I had someone native to the language write me a paragraph and then mark where breaks can occur.

For example if I were to do the same for the paragraph above:
This#is#help-ful#but#I#think#I#need#to#be#more...

I assume this would be easy for someone who knew Thai very well.

I'm not sure what you want exactly, but I will try to type something and then let's see if it's what you want or not.

This#is#help-ful#but#I#think#I#need#to#be#more...
