Listening to the Sound Clips

Are you using a PC or Mac? The sound works for me using Firefox on Windows Vista and XP. I have the "Audio Link Method" set to "External" in my Site Control Panel.

If you still have problems, pleaes provide a more specific description. Do you get an error message? Do you not hear anything at all or is the sound crackly/distorted?

Listening to the Sound Clips

Postby Whateverwerx » Wed Jan 23, 2008 12:28 pm

Glenn

I'm a new member. Before I registered, sounds played fine on Mac OSX 10.4.11 using WMP as an external player. After I registered and downloaded the latest (v9) WMP and installed Flip for Mac options, and setting the "Embedded" option in Control Panel, WAV files play, but WMA files generate a message saying "The page has content of an unspecified MIME type. Because you do not have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can't be displayed."

When I set the Audio link method to External, then click on either WAV or WMA tests, nothing at all happens, no sound, no message.

Any suggestioins for a fix? :?

Ok, I found out that the "MIME type" emitted by this website is:

code:
Code: Select all
audio/x-ms-wma

You'll need to figure out how to associate this MIME type with the player that should be invoked.

Listening to the Sound Clips

Postby Beast Of Bodmin » Thu Feb 14, 2008 1:32 pm

In the control panel, I have just tried and failed to play embedded WMA with Opera, Safari and FF. What they have in common is flip4mac 2.2.0.49 as the WMA player.

External WAV/ WMA are fine.

If I c&p these URIs into the address bar in firefox, they play fine.

So I am confused.

Listening to the Sound Clips

The 'embedded' option requires javascript to be enabled, which you probably do have. What it does is, when you click the sound icon on the web page, the following javascript is executed:

code:
Code: Select all
function PlayAudioFile(s) {
document.body.style.cursor="wait";
document.getElementById("emb_audio").innerHTML="<embed src=" + s + " hidden=true>";
document.body.style.cursor="auto";
}

This causes an HTML embed tag to be put inside a span tag which is already on the page. The 'src' of the embed tag is set to the file name.

When I try it on Firefox (on the PC, I can't help much with Mac stuff), Firefox prompts me to install Windows Media Player 11, which must be done manually.

Did you try it with "streaming" turned off (unchecked) in the control panel? With streaming on, it seems like Apple Quicktime is trying to be invoked.

:?

Some of the clips are longer phrases, and some of the clips have a bit more "dead air" leading space in them when played.
