Looks like this year's visit to the Land Of Smiles is off

The UK governement are due to upgrade the 'no travel' status to the whole of Thailand.

Worse still we were sposed to fly this Saturday (

I feel your disappointment. My trip to Thailand was nearly ruined by the "Yellow Shirts" at the end of 2008. I would consider going anyway and avoiding BKK and a few of the others areas that could possibly have disruptions.

The UK government currently advises against all but essential travel to the whole of Thailand.

It would be very difficult (and expensive) to find an insurance company that would be prepared to insure you if the government advices against all but essential travel.

I have never, ever gotten travel insurance for any trip I've taken. Didn't even know there was such a thing.

If our government tell us not to go and we decided to egnore their advice, then the majority of insurance companies would not pay out on a claim

History contains no record of the British government advising against travel to the UK after that far more-dangerous occurrence. Perhaps the importance of tourism to the economy took precedence - in that case, anyway...

I get what your saying Mangkorn. I tend to feel much safer in BKK than LDN

Curiously we are still allowed to transit through Suvarnabhumi. Possibly so not to impact business and tourism for other countries using it as a hub? I hear that tourism has been hit really bad with BKK hotel occupancy at 28%

I'd take my chances and stay in Thailand if it wasn't for the insurance issue and hope that you guys find a peaceful resolution very soon.

Not Emirates Now there is a country you really should avoid.. Yet no flight restrictions there?
