Thai site

Postby Tgeezer » Fri Feb 12, 2016 3:55 am

Does anyone know of a site similar to this but with the aim of learning English? I would think that such a site would be good for learning Thai.

I think this youtube channel is just what you're looking for:

Reverse-learning, so-to-speak. This is a great channel where you can practice that.

Thanks but that site is teaching English so it starts with English and turns Thai into English which is what this site does. This is unavoidable in translation but I have a site similar to this which is all Thai, Pantip, but thanks to a combination of predictive text, user names, and passwords I have been unable to log on but I can still read it.

I'm having difficulty resolving these two comments. Isn't that what you asked for?

Not really, because I was comparing with this site which must be a mine of information on how English is used, there is little Thai used so we gain little from it. Maybe I shouldn't have assumed that there will be a comparable site with the object of learning English.
Example:
Take 'be proportional to : มีสอดคล้องกัน สิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่ง this would have come up on a Thai site as one of the possibilities for ...ให้สอดคล้องกับ... It would be described as in proportion ได้สัดส่วนกัน correct relationship มีความสัมพันธ์ที่ถูกต้อง etc. Lots of Thai to mull over and to use if we only saw it!
I am reading from a dictionary and when I see the next word 'proportionality' I am not surprised by : the story of being in proportion: ความได้สัดส่วนกัน .

Tgeezer,

Please provide an example of the use of "มีสอดคล้องกัน" and its use as "proportional to".

Thanks.

That is a typo, it should be มีสอดคล้องกับสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่ง
Something มีสอดคล้องกับ something else. Which I take to mean that if the two things were quantities the relationship between the two would be สอดคล้อง
I am in เขาใหญ่ now so can not check it but that is how I understand my T E dictionary.

Thank you so much Pirin.
Integrated, conform, comparable, compatible, but the best word is 'insert and hook together' like a link in a chain.

Bhuddist principles of administration are probably not in conflict with modern business administration.

Thank you, Khun Pirin and Tgeezer for the sample sentence and the translations. I like the simplicity and directness of Tgeezer's translation. May I offer several more for consideration?

หลักการบริหารงานเชิงพุทธศาสตร์อาจจะเป็นแนวทางที่มีความสอดคล้องกับหลักการบริหารงานสมัยใหม่ก็ได้

Administrative principles within Buddhism might follow a path which is commensurate with modern principles of management.

Buddhist principles of management might reflect modern methods of administration.

Khun Pirin, please let us know what message the Thai sentence is communicating. Thanks.
