Can't type ไม้โท

Postby AgentJ » Tue Dec 31, 2002 5:56 pm

I can't seem to type a "ไม้โท" symbol above the word "นำ". Typically when the input editor refuses to type something, it is because that combination doesn't exists in the Thai language. Usually, I have misread the tone mark or something and I correct it and move on. However, I have verified that "นำ" (with a "ไม้โท" above it) meaning "water" is the correct spelling. I tried Notepad and Wordpad and they won't let me type it either. Does this happen to anyone else :?

I don't know if I have Glenn's typewriter on my laptop, so I didn't try it there. I find it ironic that to report this "problem" I have to use the "ไม้โท" tone mark :D

Can't type ไม้โท

This problem happens if you are not using the '-ahm' on the 'e' key of your keyboard, but rather the separate Y-k combination to form the vocalic.

Use the 'e' key and you should have no problem.

Can't type ไม้โท

Maybe it's to do with the order you're pressing the keys in, i.e.
If it's - นำ then you can't then add a ไม้โท on to make น้ำ.
But like - น้ - น้ำ it seems to work fine.

Oh yeah, now I remember. I think that's an exception to the general rule that you type a post-fixed vowel before any tone mark.

Good thing to point out.

Can't type ไม้โท

I must have been in a daze. It was the order that I was typing it. If I type the "ไม่โท" tonemark first, it works fine. ขอบคุณมากครับ :) !
