Khon Kaen has some new decorations on the lamp posts.
The figures are in shells...white with blue and sport a sword or such.
They are very interesting........anyone know the true story behind these 'angels'?

The figure is "Sinchai", a literary figure of the Central Northeast area of Thailand. You can see a You Tube video on Sinchai at http://www.oknation.net/blog/sinsi/2009/08/06/entry-1 . Even though the video is in Thai, the language is clearly-spoken Central Thai and the video is very much worth watching even without full understanding of the words.

Interestingly, the Oknation website calls the figure "วรรณกรรมสินไซ" (Sinsai) whereas the pronunciation on the video is "Sinchai".

Some of the historical paintings in the video show Sinchai emerging from a conispiral-like shell. And, the Konkaen website says that Sinchai is carrying a ธนู (bow) and a พระขรรค์ (sword).

Thanks a lot.
I will check it out thoroughly before completing my journal for this trip. (I do at least 2 every trip...one for work and one for experiences of Thai culture...it is SO rich).
