I have been looking for Thai poems to add as a background for one of my pics and to my surprise I could understand some parts of those poems that I found.

I was wondering if the advanced thai speakers here are interested in Thai poetry and if so - could you post your favorite poem?

the one i kept for the picture:

งานวันเกิด ยิ่งใหญ่ ใครคนนั้น ฉลองกัน ในกลุ่ม ผู้ลุ่มหลง
หลงลาภยศ สรรเสริญ เพลินทนง วันเกิดส่ง ชีพสั้น เร่งวันตาย
ณ มุมหนึ่ง ซึ่งเหงา น่าเศร้านัก
หญิงแก่แก่ นั่งหงอย และคอยหาย
โอ้วันนี้ ในวันนั้น อันตราย
แม่คลอดสาย โลหิต แทบปลิดชนม์
วันเกิดลูก เกือบคล้ายวันตายแม่
เจ็บท้องแท้ เท่าไร ก็ไม่บ่น
กว่าอุ้มท้อง กว่าคลอดรอดเป็นคน
เติบโตจน บัดนี้ นี่เพราะใคร
แม่เจ็บเจียน ขาดใจในวันนั้น
กลับเป็นวัน ลูกฉลองกันผ่องใส
ได้ชีวิต แล้วก็เหลิงระเริงใจ
ลืมผู้ให้ ชีวิต อนิจจา
ไฉนเรา เรียกกัน ว่า”วันเกิด”
“วันผู้ให้ กำเนิด” จะถูกกว่า
คำอวยพร ที่เขียนควรเปลี่ยนมา
ให้มารดา คุณเป็นสุขจึงถูกแท้

เลิกจัดงาน วันเกิด กันเถิดนะ
ควรแต่จะ คุกเข่า กราบเท้าแม่
รำลึกถึง พระคุณ อบอุ่นแด
อย่ามัวแต่ จัดงาน ประจานตัว

i do not understand this poem, but it doesn't really matter because it got the right size and fits the picture perfectly
i understood some smaller poems and really liked some of them

I have them too... but it's not my favorite, just something I can still remember from my old days class...

ธรณีนี่นี้ เป็นพยาน
เราก็ศิษย์มีอาจารย์ หนึ่งบ้าง
เราผิดท่านประหาร เราชอบ
เราบ่ผิดท่านมะล้าง ดาบนั้นคืนสนอง
(Oh, this earth, be the witness
I'm a student who has a teacher, at least one
I'm guilt, you execute, I'm okay
I'm not guilt, you kill, that sword shall return)

It's the famous poem of ancient Thai poet, Sri Prachya(don't know if it's written like this, but it's ศรีปราชญ์)
He's well-known for being a casanova, but he kinda quit that in his late life as he was banished to the south for having an affair with the ruler's lover.
Because of his great talent as a poet, everyone envy him, and then set up a plan to accuse him for having affair with the south ruler's lover...
He was, then, executed... before he died, he used his toe to write this on the ground...
After that, the ruler, who first banished Sri Prachya, missed his favorite poet so much that he could let Sri Prachya return, but after finding that Sri Prachya was beheaded, he got so anger that he execute the ruler of the south in the same way he did with Sri Prachya... hence the part "เราบ่ผิดท่านมะล้าง ดาบนั้นคืนสนอง"
