An excerpt from a short essay in Matichon Weekend. Please let me know if I have made any translation errors and suggest some improvements. I do have one question which I will note at the end. Thanks.

มีข้อเท็จจริงอยู่อย่างก็คือ คนเมืองโดยเฉพาะในกรุงเทพมหานคร หรือถึงวันนี้ก็คือวิถีชีวิตของคนเมืองใหญ่ๆ จะไม่ค่อยพึ่งพาอะไรนักกับนักการเมือง
The facts are that urban people, especially people in Bangkok and, today, even people with a similar life style in other large cities, do not really depend on their politicians.

ส่วนใหญ่สัมผัสกับนักการเมืองน้อยมากจนแทบไม่เคยเห็นหน้ากันเลย แต่ถึงเวลาไปเลือกตั้งแล้วจบกัน
Usually, they have no contact with politicians and rarely see them at all. However, when it comes around election time they do meet them.

หลังจากนั้นไม่ต้องมีกิจกรรมอะไรที่จะต้องสัมผัสสัมพันธ์
Afterwards, there are no activities in which they have to come in contact with [their politicians].

ซึ่งวิถีชีวิตแบบนี้ผิดกับคนในต่างจังหวัด ที่ความเป็นอยู่จะต้องอาศัยและผึ้งพานักการเมืองอยู่ตลอด
This way of life is very different from that of people in rural areas who always depend on their politicians.

นักการเมืองในต่างจังหวัดจะสัมผัสสัมพันธ์กับชาวบ้านอยู่ใกล้ชิด ไม่ใช่งานบุญเท่านั้น
Politicians in outlying areas have very close relationships with the local people, and not just at ceremonies and festivals [like weddings and funerals].

แต่เมื่อมีปัญหาอะไรชาวบ้านมักหวังพึ่งพาให้นักการเมืองช่วยเหลือหาทางออก
But, whenever there are problems, the local people rely on their political representatives to help them.

นี่เป็นความแตกต่างกันของคนในเมืองกับคนในชนบท
This [then] is the difference between the urban population and the rural population.

Question: In the clause, "แต่ถึงเวลาไปเลือกตั้งแล้วจบกัน". I wonder what แล้วจบกัน means. I had expected "แล้วเจอกัน". Any thoughts? Thanks.

จบ is to end and กัน means mutually so I think it means that after that time they end the association.
