Thai boxing names - need help

Postby nymb242 » Wed Dec 02, 2015 3:55 pm

Hi,

I'm a boxing fan and there's plenty of action coming out of Thailand. But often times I need a little help when Thai boxer names are not listed in their Latin form.

boxrec.com is the main site for boxing records but sometimes the record keeping is less than complete. There are plenty of examples of fights that take place in Thailand only to never make their way onto the boxrec database.

A great source for boxing out of Thailand is this channel. Most of the time they put the Latin spellings of names in the video title. But not always.

So sometimes I need some translation (and of course, google and other translation sites are useless).

Here's an example:
มนตรี ว.เทคโนโลยีโพลลีกรุงเทพ vs ฟ้าเมืองพล ศิษย์มานพชัย Montree PKT College Vs --

They list the first name as Montree PKT College. I need a translation of the 2nd name.

Here's another where they didn't translate either name:
เพชรอำพล ส.เกียรติเจริญศิริ vs ทัพพล ช.พิชิตชัย

Any help would be much appreciated. Hopefully I can pass it along to boxrec and they can add the fights to their database.

The name of Montree's school is Bangkok Poly-technology, referred to in brief as "Poly-Tech". See http://www.poly.ac.th/main.html?language_code=TH

[In the provinces poly-technology colleges are generally called "วิทยาลัยสารพัดช่าง"]

The second name is "ฟ้าเมืองพล ศิษย์มานพชัย" [Faamuangphol Sitmanopchai].

Thanks, David,

It makes sense about Montree. There's a couple of guys and boxrec has split records on both of them. Both use "Technopoly Bangkok" as their last name but are also known as "PKT College".

I am quite certain the guys with the same first name (or similar) are the same guys:

Montree PKT College
Montree Technopoly Bangkok

Ronnakit PKT College
Romnakit Technopoly Bangkok

But the main thing is the missing one. I don't see any similar record so assuming he was making his pro debut (happens all the time there). Thanks!

Any thoughts on this one?

Awesome! Thanks so much for the quick reply. :D

I have one more that I've come across while sorting out the PKT College/Technopoly Bangkok guys. I'll finish that and post here soon.
