I am writing this recommendation of my Thai teacher Narisa (email is jade_theresa@yahoo.com)

I've been studying Thai in America for a while now. I feel like I talk like a 5 year old would. I started working with Narisa about one year ago to improve my tones. I believe the tones are the key ingredient I was missing in my Thai studies.

Narisa has been helping me understand what tones there are and how to say each one. Basic, yes, but I needed that work. I never did that before and it helped a lot. Narisa also helps me with proper pronunciation as we converse. My Thai clarity has been improving, when I travel to Thailand people are definitely understanding me better!

I like working with Narisa because she is diligent, accurate, and knows how to teach Thai. Just because someone is a native speaker, does not mean they can teach. Narisa can teach. She also speaks perfect English and can explain subtleties to me in English. That is very helpful.

I recommend learning Thai from Narisa, just don't try and take my time slot

How are you doing in your life and in learning Thai?
เป็นยังไงกันบ้างคะ เรื่องชีวิต เรื่องการเรียนภาษาไทย

I haven't talked to anyone lately except for my students.
นริศาไม่ได้คุยอะไรกับใครเลยนานแล้ว นอกจากกับนักเรียน

But I have something to tell you now from my experience of helping the Thai police as an interpreter that communicates with foreigners at the police station in Bangkok.
แต่วันนี้มีอะไรบางอย่างที่อยากบอก จากการที่ได้ไปช่วยตำรวจสื่อสารกับชาวต่างชาติที่สถานีตำรวจในกรุงเทพฯในฐานะล่าม

I had helped them in 2010, 2013 and just went back again now in 2018.
ดิฉันไปช่วยที่นั่นในปี 2553, 2555 แล้วก็ 2561

Nothing has changed much in terms of crime or what foreigners come to report to us.
ไม่มีอะไรเปลี่ยนมากในแง่ของ อาชญากรรมหรือสิ่งที่ชาวต่างชาติมาแจ้งความกับเรา

But these things are what I have learned and want to share, hopefully, I will not see any of you there at the police station.
แต่มีบางอย่างที่ได้เห็นและอยากแบ่งปัน หวังว่าดิฉันจะไม่ได้เจอพวกคุณที่นั่นนะคะ

1. Drugs: do not try them. Even though you have money and someone will bail you out eventually, but first, you will be handcuffed. Then you have to sleep at the jail in the police station before they take you to the court the next day or next few days if you are caught on holiday or weekend. It is not comfortable.
1. ยาเสพติด อย่าลองเลย ถึงจะได้ประกัน แต่ก่อนอื่นคุณจะถูกใส่กุญแจมือ แล้วคุณก็ต้องนอนห้องขังสถานีก่อนจะได้ไปศาลวันรุ่งขึ้น หรือถ้าคุณถูกจับวันหยุด ก็จะต้องนอนในห้องขัง 2-3 คืน ไม่สะดวก สบายนะคะ

2. Riding the taxi. Always write down the plate no. If you take photos from a cellphone make sure it connects to the cloud. It does not help when you take the picture on a cellphone and then you forget your cellphone!
2. การลืมของในแท็กซี่ จดเลขทะเบียนทุกครั้งที่ขึ้นรถ ถ้าถ่ายรูปจากมือถือ อย่าลืมอัพข้อมูลไปไว้ในคลาวด์นะคะ เพราะถ้าลืมมือถือไว้ในแท็กซี่ ก็ไม่มีประโยชน์

3. When taking people you do not know well, up to your room in the hotel. Always have the hotel staff make a copy of the visitor ID card. It helps the police to get things back to you.
3. การเอาคนไม่รู้จักดีขึ้นห้อง ให้แผนกต้อนรับ ถ่ายสำเนาบัตรไว้ด้วย ถ้ามีอะไรตำรวจตามให้ได้ง่ายนะคะ

4. Don't put your wallet in your back pocket of your trousers. It is easy to be pulled out by the pickpocket when you try to get out of the train or crowded bus. It is safer to put it at the front.
4. อย่าเอากระเป๋าเงินใส่ไว้ที่กระเป๋าหลังของกางเกง คนที่มีอาชีพล้วงกระเป๋าจะดึงไปง่าย เวลาคุณเข้าออกจากรถไฟ หรือรถเมล์แน่นๆ เก็บกระเป๋าเงินไว้ข้างหน้าปลอดภัยกว่า

5. Sexual related: Ladies, please cover your body well. Revealing the flesh and walking alone is not a safe idea.
5. เรื่องเกี่ยวกับเพศ คุณผู้หญิงทั้งหลาย แต่งตัวเรียบร้อยไว้ ปลอดภัยกว่านะคะ เปิดเนื้อหนังมากๆ แล้วเดินคนเดียว ไม่ค่อยปลอดภัยค่ะ

Most of all. I hope 2018 is one of the best years learning Thai language and culture, visiting and staying in Thailand.
