I updated my iPhone 4S OS to version 8 and now when clicking on a word for audio the app shuts down. The app worked great before upgrading to version 8 on my iPhone and is a wonderful tool use daily. Has anyone else had this problem. I can live without the sound but it is nice to have.

The sound files from this site were never ported over to the Apple version. The sounds you were hearing were those generated by the iOS itself. So, if you are unable to hear the sounds, the issue seems to be with the Apple software itself. Beyond that, I suspect that this site's iPhone/iPad developer will look at the new update and provide a response.

What David is saying is correct — the pronunciation in the app is currently based on the text-to-speech engine provided by the iOS operating system. In a future update, though, I think we should make use of the excellent pronunciation files on the website. It could be an optional download once the app is installed (in order to keep the app footprint small).

As for the sound on iOS 8, I am happy to say that the issue has been resolved in version 1.6.2, which was released yesterday. This version also includes the latest material from the website, bringing the total number of entries to more than 60,000.
