Thai alphabet

Postby sonji » Mon Jun 08, 2015 12:10 am

Hello, I'm learning the Thai script, and I have some questions about the alphabet as it is taught.. It starts off with 'go gui gor gai, khor khai nai lao' (at least that's how it sounds). I've figured out that 'gai' is chicken, 'khai' is egg, gor and khor are the names of the letters... So what are go gui and nai lao? Through the rest of the consonants it's like this... Name of letter, word that features the letter, and then some other words I don't understand. Only with gor gai, the mystery words come first. Any idea what all of this is about? thank you in advance!

Here is a translation of the full Thai alphabet song:

with each word explained. Click on the red arrow after each Thai sentence to see the detail of each word.

Best of luck with your studies!
