1. What's the Thai term for liver fluke, and the resulting disease (fasciolosis)?

The liver fluke is called พยาธิใบไม้ในตับ, one of a group of animals known as trematodes, พยาธิใบไม้, which in turn are part of the flatworm family, known in Thai as หนอนตัวแบน.

Human fasciolosis is caused by two species of trematode, of which one is Fasciola hepatica (พยาธิใบไม้ในตับแกะ), so maybe that word will be enough for your doctor to prescribe.

I came accross Tl.com, potentially paralogically, for the question: Is it relevant for the aetiology of (specifically hilar) cholangiocarcinoma which kind of "worm" is the "causing agent".

I do not remember well what actually happened when I visited with this question Tl.com. Suppose that I started with entering worm (?) in the look-up - and resigned when ปลิงทะเล turned out to be a sea urchin.

May I ask: This just has been corrected by the authors of Tl.com --- in the meanwhile? Sea urchin is linked in Wikipedia to เม่นทะเล but not to ปลิงทะเล, so called "Sea cucumber", or drowned hirudin (???)

Human Fasciolosis is caused, in most intances, in Europe, by Fasciola hepatica but in Thailand more frequently than Fasciolosis seems to be Opisthorchiasis (see e.g. พยาธิใบไม้ตับในประเทศไทย, which gives a good overview on the epidemology in Thailand). And the most frequent worm/ปลิงไม่ทะเล/terrestric sea urchin seems to be Opisthorchis viverrini.

Thus, my original question raised here was not very precise.

As hilar cholangiocarcinoma is an orphan disease in Europe the overall question behind, different risks by different worms/leechs/ปลิงไม่ทะเล/terrestric sea urchins, remains difficult to answer.

Google says it is Opisthorchis viverrini, common name for Southeast Asian liver fluke, that attacks the area of the bile duct. It generally refers to the flat fish. In thai it is พยาธิใบไม้ในตับ. These are the information we get when we search about liver fluke. Share if there is any more.
