A discussion on this very topic can be found at https://pantip.com/topic/35115793. As usual, Pantip is a wonderful source of information regarding questions like this.

The Thai word for grinding wheel is "หินเจียร" and for the mechanical version, "หินเจียรไฟฟ้า".

"[The word ลูกหมู] likely comes from the use of a seven inch grinding stone which in former times had an silver-colored, aluminum metal housing shaped like a baby pig."

One could argue with the imagery, but, context is everything. See, at the Pantip site, pictures of this angle grinder and let your imagination run wild.
