From Northern Thailand, it is possible to cross into Burma for shopping in a small town across the river from Mae Sai.This shop in Burma offers animal pelts and extracts to Thai shoppers who cross the border every day en masse in search of grey-market bargains. Although not on display here, many shops offer pelts from endangered species such as the white tiger. These pelts become available when the animals are killed for use in certain Chinese medicines. |
