May 2002 News Archive The site has been crashing unpredictably for the last week or so due to a new version of my custom site monitor tool. With luck, this problem has now been fixed by changing/rewriting the threading strategy of the service component. Now 11408 entries. Big performance improvement for browsing Thai—cached array index starts (and entry counts) for each letter. Uploaded new entries, now 11183. Cleaned up ASP code, making HTML responses smaller and faster. Trying to track down a bug which has been causing intermittent crashes. As part of this effort, I made various performance optimizations to the ActiveX wrapper code. Fixed a possible bug: return value from AnyIdXlit was not being preserved in Phrase.cpp. Now 10986 entries. Fixed problem with audio link flag(s) being cleared. Enabled audio for prefixed entries/phrases. Minor tuning of the transliteration engine, fixed David, Nevada, and Iowa. Rewrote Thai script searching to use binary search with an available index and allow searching for prefixed words/phrases. This greatly increases the speed of these searches over the previous O(2N) method. Also fixed encoding problem with default codepage/characters for Mac platforms. 9517 entries. Prefixed words now included in the browse listings. Restated total number of entries to include entries with multiple definitions, giving 9381 entries. Entered and corrected words and phrases, now 8246 entries, new prefixed words are only counted once with the base entry. Removed duplicate phrases. Added new entries. Added additional prefixes, and capability for phrase prefixes such as น้ำมัน. Now 8148 entries. Upgraded multiprocessor site server to 1 GB RAM. Added entries. Fixed many content bugs. Added a special prefix indicator for plant, flower, bird, tree, etc. words; these words are sorted in the browse pages without the prefix. Now such words do not need a separate phrase to add the prefix, so the number of entries has decreased and will continue to decrease accordingly. Now 7855 entries. Improved Netscape support: VBScript will generally not be sent if that browser is detected (exception: tone calculator) |
