[นาม]	ชื่อแมงขนาดเล็กหลายชนิดในหลายวงศ์ ลักษณะทั่วไปคล้ายไร แต่ส่วนใหญ่มักโตกว่า และปากมีลักษณะเป็นแท่ง มีหนามโค้งเล็กๆ กระจายอยู่รอบปลายปาก แผ่นแข็งของรูหายใจอยู่บริเวณด้านข้างของลำตัวเลยขาคู่ที่ ๔ มาทางด้านส่วนท้อง มีทั้งชนิดที่มีผนังลำตัวแข็ง และผนังลำตัวอ่อน เป็นตัวเบียนดูดกินสัตว์เช่น เห็บวัว (Boophilus caudatus) เห็บสุนัข (Rhipicephalus sanguineus) ทั้ง ๒ ชนิดอยู่ในวงศ์ Ixodidae.
